I recently attended the 2016 Global City Teams Challenge Expo in Austin. Fifteen cities such as Austin, Chattanooga, Phoenix, etc. are part of an initiative designed to advance the deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies within a smart city / smart community environment. Over 1000 people attended, with more than 100 exhibitors from all over the world showcasing their accomplishments and technologies.
